Wisconsin DOJ provides paid public access to adult criminal-history information through WORCS. The official WORCS FAQ distinguishes registered accounts from one-off public requests.
| Your access situation | Submit and retrieve the request |
|---|---|
| No registered account | Select Submit Request on the Public Access tab. Keep the receipt’s order number; enter it in Review Prior Search Results to retrieve a completed response. |
| Registered user | Sign in and choose Submit New Request from the dashboard. View My Requests is the route back to submitted orders. |
| Results are not ready | Return through the appropriate retrieval route after processing. A pending response is not a no-record finding. |
Follow the payment screen and preserve the receipt. Its link can take you directly to the specific request’s results.
The FAQ says results remain available for six months from submission. Reviewing an existing result within that window does not require another payment; after the period, the request must be resubmitted.
Save the response as a dated result. Its later retrieval does not update the criminal-history information to the day you reopen it.
The DOJ guide to reading a record says a name-based response can belong to someone else. Compare the available identifying information, including birth date and other supported identifiers, with what you know about the subject.
The master name is the name used when the person was first fingerprinted for the repository. It may not be a true name. An alias similar to your search name is not enough to attribute the criminal record.
Review the response explanation and follow DOJ’s correction or challenge information when appropriate. Do not turn an uncertain identity match into a factual claim about the person.
The DOJ repository description explains that arrest fingerprint submissions support its criminal-history database. Arrests without supporting fingerprints and their related dispositions are not included. Courts and corrections can hold other information, so a repository search and a court-file search have different coverage.
